Coming Soon! Chavez Huerta Charter Academy
CRP Architects is honored to be a trusted partner of the Chavez Huerta Charter Academy. Working alongside their administrative staff and key educators, the new school was designed to enhance their existing campus. The new school will be transitional in nature – it will begin operations as a middle school, but has been designed to easily convert to an elementary school as enrollment increases and needs shift. Designed with that adaptability in mind, many of the learning spaces within the building can easily flex to accommodate either elementary or middle school curriculum. For example, two classrooms were designed as middle school science lab, but will easily convert to elementary classrooms when needed. The special education suite and media center are two other examples of spaces with similar adaptability.
Honoring the Spanish heritage of the school is known for, another highlight of the design are the indoor and outdoor Mariachi dance and music classrooms and performance spaces. This curriculum piece has been a central aspect to the Chavez Huerta culture for many years, and the design team took a very sensitive approach to not just accommodating this program, but instead allowing it to inform and drive the design.
Featuring cost effective yet durable materials, both the interior and exterior architecture subtly reflect the Southwest motifs often found in Southern Colorado while also creating a warm and inviting feel to the school. Everything from color schemes to building massing and material selection support this design goal.
CRP Architects remains excited and humbled to be a part of the team and we know this school will continue educating and supporting local students for many years to come!
