GRAND OPENING: Ersilia Cruz Middle & Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School

CRP Architects was thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the addition and renovation of the Ersilia Cruz Middle School and Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School on the Chavez Huerta Preparatory Academy campus.  The campus, master planned by CRP, includes a new preK-5 elementary school which was also a CRP design, a 350kW solar panel array, and space for a future CTE building.  This project was funded through the State’s “Building Excellent Schools Today” (BEST) program, which was established to address high priority life safety improvements at schools around the state.  Representatives from the school, Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, BEST representatives, students, parents, and others participated in the ceremony, which is a testament to the broad spectrum of community members associated with the school.  Following the ceremony, the building was open for tours and many students and families commented about the open, inviting feel of the building and appreciated the flow between common areas that could serve both high school and middle school students.

HIGHLIGHTS:

▪ Transformational renovation and addition that expanded high school offerings

▪ Addition completed while school was in session with no disruption to programs

▪ Multi-purpose spaces intended for community use

▪ Solar panel field generates 200kW of renewal energy for school

▪ Designed to celebrate Hispanic heritage of the region

CRP Architects was honored to once again team with Nunn Construction who served as the CM/GC for the project and was critical in the success of the project.  Nunn was involved early in the process during the initial design phases, providing constructability reviews and early cost modeling.  As a testament to the efficiency and skill of the team, the project was completed on time and within budget.  This expanded middle school and remodeled high school will serve generations of learners for decades to come!
